Aging Can Be Funny: The Science and Joy of Laughter
What if one of the most powerful tools for healthy aging was also one of the most enjoyable?
Join us for an uplifting and engaging workshop exploring the science behind humor and why laughter plays such an important role in aging — both physiologically and psychologically. Research shows that laughter can reduce stress hormones, support immune function, improve mood, and strengthen social bonds. Simply put: humor is good for us.
In the first half of the program, we’ll explore the fascinating science of why laughter truly is medicine.
In the second half… we’ll put it into practice.
This interactive session invites presenters and Villagers alike to share a favorite joke, short story, humorous reading, or funny life moment. Together, we’ll create space to laugh with friends — and maybe even at ourselves.
You’ll also leave with practical ideas for bringing more humor into everyday life, including:
Laughing yoga
Classic comedy clips and movie recommendations
Humorous books and essays
Joke collections and storytelling prompts
Everyday practices for finding the funny in ordinary moments
The goal? To encourage each of us to intentionally cultivate humor as part of healthy aging — and to experience the simple joy of laughing together.
Because at every stage of life, aging can be funny. And that’s something worth celebrating.
